News and Announcements

Dear Swimmers and Parents,

We are excited to share the details of our BBD Summer Program. Registration for BBD swimmers who completed the 2023-24 season in good standing will open this Thursday, May 16th at noon. If there are any spots remaining, we will open those to new swimmers at a later date. Please read below for further information. If you have any questions specific to your swimmer, please reach out to your child’s head age group coach. Any questions about registration should be directed to the YMCA. Your swimmer must have a current active membership with the YMCA in order to register.

Long Course – 13& Up
The Summer Long Course program is for 13 & over swimmers who intend on swimming long course (50 meter pool) meets. Swimmers ages 15&Up can register for 5 mornings/week of long course (LC) training at the Botsford Swimming Pool located in Livonia. The coaches will require attendance at minimum of 3 LC morning practices/week and as many PM practices as they choose. Swimmers ages 13-14 can register for 2 LC training mornings/week at Botsford (Monday, Wednesday) and must be committed to attending these practices and as many PM practices as they choose. The PM practices are intended as a supplement to the AM practices. For both groups, the first two weeks of practice will be held at Cranbrook Natatorium in the evenings only. Outdoor practices at Botsford in the mornings will begin on June 17th. The coaches expect that swimmers registered for this program will participate in summer meets for which they qualify. Here is the meet schedule.

BBD Coaches and Parent Board

Dear Parents and Swimmers who are attending the MAGS Meet in Holland:

Michigan Swimming has thrown us a curveball by altering the format of this weekend’s meet from a prelims/final meet to timed finals.

This is irritating because the whole reason we elected to attend this meet (instead of the whole team going to Zones) was because we like to expose our swimmers to a prelims/final meet as part of their continuing development.

Today we will receive a revised psych sheet. Swimmers who are ranked 1-24 will swim in the evening session, the others will swim in the morning session. The relay schedule will remain the same.

Please watch for the psych sheet.

Chris and Kevin

Entries are now open for the 2024 11-14 Michigan Swimming Age Group Championship Meet (MAGS) that is being held March 15-17, 2024 at the Holland Aquatic Center in Holland, MI. Keep in mind, this is the SAME WEEKEND as Y Zones; your child will only attend one of these meets if qualified for both. Please do not enter both. For this meet, as it is a USA-S meet, your child’s age is determined by their age on March 15, 2024 for qualifying purposes. Times will be updated following Y States prior to entry deadline, and all new qualifiers will have entries available in the Parent Portal as soon as possible. Any new qualifiers at the Day After Meet will need to email bbdentries@gmail.com to notify of the new qualified event and desire to enter.

If you have any questions about whether your child should attend YMCA Zones vs 11-14 MAGS, please direct those questions to their age group coach. All coach emails are available on the BBD website under ABOUT BBD.

For this meet, your parent portal will allow selecting your child’s events (different from years prior). However, your child’s entries may be changed by their coach after the entry closes to best suit the needs of the team for scoring. If this occurs, a coach will notify your swimmer directly.
Deadline for entry is Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 8pm.

BONUS EVENTS are allowed at this meet for any swimmers qualified in fewer than 4 events for the entire meet (NOT per day). Please review the meet packet for Bonus swim guidelines. A swimmer may ONLY enter 50s and 100s as Bonus swims.
Email bonus requests to bbdentries@gmail.com.

Please review the meet packet below in full, as there are many important details in there. MAGS qualifying times may be found on the BBD website, on your child’s BBD bag tag and on their motivational sheets that your child was provided earlier in the season.

If you miss the sign-up deadlines, your child will not be able to swim because there are no deck entries at this meet.

If you believe your child has qualified for this meet, AND you have confirmed it by reviewing the qualifying time standards, please email bbdentries@gmail.com.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Lisa Helmick, BBD Meet Entry Chair, at bbdentries@gmail.com

Entries are now open for the 2024 BBD Spring Day After Meet which will take place on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Birmingham Groves High School. The Day After Meet is run differently than all other meets that BBD attends. Please read this email and the meet packet, which can be found on the BBD website and below, in their entirety.

The Day After Meet is a USA-S meet (not a YMCA meet) and is open to experienced 13 & up swimmers that are attempting to achieve one or more qualifying times for Zones, MAGS, or Y Nationals. If you have any question as to whether your swimmer should attend, please have them talk to their coach at practice or email their coach (all coach emails can be found on the BBD website under ABOUT BBD).

The Day After Meet is a time trial meet; it is run in one session with three rounds of events. There is a short break between each round. Each round offers the same events except that the 1650 and the 1000 are only offered in Round 1. If your swimmer does not achieve their desired qualifying time in Round 1 they will have the opportunity to submit a deck entry for subsequent rounds. Please review the meet packet for the list of events.

Swimmers can swim in any or all rounds, however Round 1 swims are only open to those swimmers that submit an entry prior to the meet entry deadline (as described above and in the meet packet). Swimmers that enter via deck entry are limited to Rounds 2 and 3.
The entry deadline for Round 1 events is Friday, March 1 at 8 pm.

If your swimmer would like to swim one or more events in round 1, please enter them within the Parent Portal, as is usual with all other meets. No need to enter Rounds 2 and 3, as those may be deck entered. Just be sure to send your swimmer with cash/check to the meet. Any events entered in the Parent Portal will be paid through the Active system, as usual.

Of note, please be aware that if the Parent Portal shows a “timeline” for when a round may start, that is NOT applicable for the actual start time other than for Session 1. The meet just keeps moving until all rounds are completed.
